Use of the suffix JP

It has come to the attention of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association that the are Justices using the suffix JP on social media and other personal documentation. The Auckland Justices of the Peace Association consider that this is a breach of our Code of Conduct and Ethics. Clause 11.8.2, Section 4 (Page 112 of the Ministerial Manual) states that

“Justices of the Peace shall use the office of Justice of the Peace for the purpose of ministerial or judicial duties and not to enhance their personal status.”

It is considered that use of the suffix JP on social media and any personal documentation is an attempt to enhance personal status. Please ensure that you use the suffix JP only when performing JP duties and update any social media or personal documentation as appropriate.
