Answer to Question #18
Which of the following statements regarding a Justice of the Peace’s occupation is correct when completing official documents?
- The JP should state their specific profession (e.g., teacher, accountant).
- “Retired” should be used if the JP is no longer in paid employment.
- “Justice of the Peace” should almost always be used, because this is the reason you are authorised to act.
- The JP can choose any title that accurately reflects their current role.
Answer C. Write ‘Justice of the Peace’ as your occupation, then sign, date and stamp.
The exceptions to this are when a JP witnesses a will or when a JP witnesses an attorney’s signature on an EPA (see Ministerial Manual pp 38-41).
