Our History – Street names in Auckland

There were a number of streets named after prominent Justices of the Peace in the first 30 years of Auckland’s settlement, 1840 -1870:

Clarke Road, Onehunga – George Clarke

Felton Matthew Ave, St Johns  – Felton Matthew

Shortland Street, City – Willoughby Shortland

Mt Smart Road  – Henry Dalton Smart

Symonds Street – William Cornwallis Symonds

Bartley Street, Northcote – Thomas Houghton Bartley

Campbell Crescent, Campbell Park – Sir John Logan Campbell

Farmer Street, Mangere –  James Farmer

Bain Street,  Bucklands Beach – John Watson Bain

Gilfillan Street, Blockhouse Bay – J. A. Gilfillan

Beckam Street, Grafton – Thomas Beckham

Daldy Street, City – William Crush Daldy
