“Not mine!” said an Auckland Justice of Peace when shown what was said to be his signature. Ernest Vickery, giving evidence in Court said “that signature’s nothing like mine… and I never sign with my full name plus the letters J.P.”. The Justice of the Peace was a witness in the case against an Auckland accountant who got behind with his annual returns to Government Officials and so falsified his audit certificate and a Statutory Declaration. He, himself, had signed the documents “Ernest J. Vickery, JP”. The Justice of the Peace was cleared, but the accountant served time and was struck from the register of accountants.
