Notes from September Council Meeting

The Council of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association met on September 11, 2024.

  • This was the final meeting for the Council as presently constituted:  a number of terms will finish with effect 22 September, with re-elected or newly elected Council members meeting for the first time in October. 
  • Our Auckland Regional Conference and the AJPA Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday September 22, 2024, at a different venue from last year – The Parnell Hotel and Conference Centre, commencing at 9am. Lunch will be served. All details are in the JP Corner of ourwebsite. Members are reminded to register to participate in this key governance meeting.
  • August again broke the record for transactions at service desks in a month – 56,000 documents administered
  • Federal Structure Review: Following 3 poorly attended discussion meetings via zoom and a questionnaire completed by fewer than 3% of AJPA members,  Council acknowledged that there is little interest from Auckland Justices in any changes to the structure of the Royal Federation.
  • Council approved the merger of Glen Point/Hobson/St Heliers/Eastern Suburbs/Maungarei Support Groups into a single group to be known as Central East effective from October 1.
  • A new service desk at Glenfield Library has been approved for a 3 month trial starting Thursday October 17, with hours  1.00pm – 3.00pm.
  • Council reminded Support Group Co-ordinators that it is important that the contact list of Justices which accompanies the electronic rosters be kept up to date.
  • A reminder to Justices who are going to be away on holiday that they make themselves unavailable on both 
    • Find a JP (justiceofthepeace.org.nz) and on 
    • JP locator (submit to Bruce Kilmister  the form in JP corner (jpauckland.org.nz)
  • Justices who have recently sat the updated Accreditation test were invited to complete a survey on the new test, and comments related to their experiences have been passed on to the Royal Federation.
  • AJPA merchandise (a selection of clothing/accessories with our logo) will be made available for members to purchase. Information will be available in the JP corner of our website.
  • The President thanked those who were attending their final Council meeting, for their input over the past year.
