The Council of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association held its first meeting for 2022 on February 9 face-to-face for the first time since July.  Auckland District Court COVID-19 restrictions were complied with.

  • 2022, our Centenary Year, will be launched in March at the Coordinators’/Rosterers’ day. That will begin a year of celebrations and appreciation.
  • The Royal Federation AGM, scheduled for the end of February in New Plymouth, will now be held by zoom on the same weekend.  This will be a new experience for most, although we held our own AGM successfully last year via zoom.
  • We accepted, with regret,  the resignation of John Abbott from Council. A discussion was held about co-opting one or two additional members to Council until the next election.
  • A zoom accreditation course of 110 JPs has resulted in more than 90 JPs completing Accreditation in February:   a great result.
  • More than 50% of AJPA Service Desks have reopened, using strict procedures. To view those desks which are open click HERE. Due to fewer JPs being available, some desks have reduced hours, and some host venues are not yet opening the JP desk.
  • A great deal of work has been done to ensure SD procedures, signage, safety, and web information are consistent, prior to each desk re-opening.  opening SDs has eased pressure on the small number of JPs who have provided services through electronic verification. Contactless ‘Box Drop’ continues to be a safe way for most JPs to be available to the public.
  • The first swearing-in since August is scheduled for mid-February, although with reduced numbers.  Work is continuing to arrange further dates with the Court.
  • Plans are being finalised for the 2022 Coordinators’ and Rosterers’ Day on Saturday, March 12.  Details will be sent directly to Support Group Coordinators, and COVID-19 precautions will be in place, with vaccination passes and masks required.
  • The first training sessions for the year have been scheduled, and dates for HUB professional development sessions during Term 2 (May-early July) will be available shortly.
  • Interviews with nominated individuals wishing to become JPs are being conducted frequently, in an attempt to clear the backlog from last year.  The nomination process is still taking longer than we would wish.
