The Council of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association held its final meeting for 2021 on December 8.  The meeting was held by Zoom due to ongoing Covid restrictions.

  • During this past year, nearly every Auckland-based MP has been contacted to discuss their processes for nominating JPs and to build relationships with MPs
  • A zoom meeting for those undertaking electronic certifications (copies, statutory declarations, affidavits) helped to support these overworked JPs.  Guidance on the process, including a short video, is available on the website.  Council is very grateful to those doing this work.
  • A zoom meeting was held to maintain contact with almost 50 provisionally appointed Justices awaiting swearing-in, delayed by the pandemic.
  • Interviews with nominated individuals are still on hold, disappointingly, but some may be able to be scheduled early in 2022.
  • Planning is progressing for the Coordinators’ Day on March 12, and suggestions are being sought from Support Group Coordinators to determine the final programme.  The day will also be the launch of our Centenary celebrations – 100 years since we were founded!
  • Many zoom meetings have been held to plan for the reopening of our very important Service Desk services, in a safe and effective manner.  Processes and safety checklists, appropriate signage, and a comprehensive policy are being developed initially for mall-based desks, in the hope, some may be able to open before Christmas.
  • It was confirmed that Justices can ASK clients about their vaccination status, and are encouraged to share their own vaccination status when setting up ‘letterbox drop’ meetings (still no face-to-face permitted without masks and distancing)
  • Accreditation Study Group online courses (next one 31 January 2022) are currently the only form of training available to meet accreditation requirements.
  • A Privacy Policy was finalised and is available on the website.
  • Technical improvements continue, with Council all familiar with zoom meetings and access to information on the Council Drive.
