MARRIAGE DISSOLUTION EXHIBITS

Justices are reminded that when they are administering marriage dissolution forms that there is a requirement to include the Marriage Certificate as Exhibit A to the affidavit.

It is apparent that there is still some confusion about what actually constitutes a Marriage Certificate.  Many clients are unaware that the ‘Particulars of Marriage’ on the left (that they signed on the day they were married and which was provided to them by the Marriage Celebrant) is NOT their Marriage Certificate.

After the marriage celebrations, couples have to apply to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages for a copy of their Marriage Certificate on the right.  This is the document that is required to be stamped as Exhibit A to the Dissolution of Marriage Affidavit.  Copies of the two documents are placed below for clarification.  Note you can either provide the actual original or a certified copy of the original as the Exhibit.
