Important Notice: Fingerprinting for Police Clearance

For police clearance checks, many countries – such as South  Africa – require a full set of fingerprints. These fingerprints must be taken by an operator who is authorised and recognised by NZ Police.

Authorised operators use the correct fingerprinting process and specialised equipment to ensure that the fingerprints meet international standards. They are trained to assess fingerprint quality by analyzing ridge details, ensuring that the submission will be accepted by the relevant authorities.

Fingerprints taken by a JP using a black ink pad are highly likely to be rejected, leading to costly delays for the client.

What You Need to Know

If a client requires fingerprinting for an overseas police clearance, please inform them that a JP cannot provide this service. Instead, they should use one of the authorised providers listed on our website under JP Corner → Useful Resources – Useful Links → Fingerprint Services.

Note: Thumbprints only for specific applications, such as a Malaysian passport application, can still be taken by a JP.
