The Council of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association held its first meeting for 2020 on February 12.
For the first time, the Council agenda was prepared and accessed by all the Council using a single Google Docs document. This trial run was very successful, and with a few tweaks, should be used in the future.
Most of our Service Desks are now accessing Google Docs to submit monthly activity statistics. These are hugely important for capturing the large volumes of work that goes through our Auckland desks, for reporting to Royal Federation and for applying for grants. This process of collection is also proving time-saving for Coordinators.
The recently appointed Office Administrator, Karen Avery JP, joined the meeting briefly to meet Council members. Karen’s role includes supporting our Registrar, Janet Thompson.
The Council discussed the process for honouring Justices for their length of service, and decided to explore some options prior to the 30-year mark.
Preparations were finalised for the meeting of the Support Group Coordinators and Rosterers, to be held on Saturday 22 February. This was an effective and useful meeting last year, so it is hoped ALL Support Groups will be represented again.
Final plans are being made for 8 members of Council to attend the Royal Federation’s Conference in Hawera at the end of February. A preparation meeting is scheduled to ensure our team is well briefed and prepared, especially for the remits we have proposed. (Refer to JQ January issue)
Our Facebook page now has almost 200 members who can access news and events.
Trainings continue to prepare new Justices for their roles, and support those working in the area to stay up to date. Two new trainers have recently been appointed to spread that work.
REMINDER: Final planning has been completed for our social event on March 15 (Sunday) 12-4pm at Eden Garden. Join with JP colleagues for the AJPA MIX and MINGLE– enjoy time with colleagues and explore the magnificent garden.
