Documents for an Apostille – JPs do NOT administer these!

Justices of the Peace for New Zealand have jurisdiction to administer New Zealand documents. Documents which are required by foreign countries usually require administration by a Notary Public (a senior lawyer with qualifications in International Law). Client’s can google “Find a Notary” to obtain a list of Notaries.
We have received reports from Notaries in Auckland of JPs administering documents for an Apostille. These documents are rejected, and clients are then required to obtain new copies of documents from foreign countries, causing expense and delays.
All documents for an Apostille must be administered by a Notary Public.
