December Council Meeting Briefs

The Council of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association held its final meeting for the year on 11 December 2019.

  • Policies and Guidelines for Specialist Functions have been revised and approved, and will become available on the website.
  • Preparations are being finalised for the meeting of Support Group Coordinators and Rosterers, to be held on Saturday 22 February. This was an effective and useful meeting last year, so it is hoped ALL Support Groups will be represented again.
  • Plans are being made for several members of Council to attend the Royal Federation’s Conference in Hawera early in the New Year. It is an important part of the governance process, and Auckland has proposed several remits for discussion.
  • Service Desk Christmas closure and hours details will be posted on the website for the convenience of the public – but need to be advised to the Registrar if they have not been already.
  • Our Association’s membership numbers this month were 1344, as we welcomed nine newly-sworn Justices, and recognised the long and good service of three JP (Retired) members.
  • Accreditation is progressing well – remember to sit the accreditation test at your leisure, but to also record training sessions attended, to keep your accreditation current. Clients are increasingly choosing Justices with the green Accredited bar!
  • Statistics, now being collected through Google Docs, are coming in quickly at each month end, including some from Service Desks that have rarely reported in the past. Great progress, as we can now more accurately say the number of clients being helped, with what sort of documents.
  • An opportunity to meet socially is being planned: High Tea at Eden Garden on 15 March, 2020.  Your $30 includes garden entry, a selection of finger food, and tea or coffee.  Eden Garden should be looking great at that time!  Watch out for future information early next year.
  • Te Reo resources are now available on the Royal Federation’s website: pronunciation, phrases, resources for a JP’s role.  Access from the Training box on the Members’ page.
  • The meeting concluded with luncheon, and the presentation of Life Membership to Eddie Stark, with his wife and daughter present. A great end to the year.
