August AJPA Council Meeting

August Council Meeting

The Council of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association held its regular monthly meeting on 14 August 2019.

  • Further AJPA policies have now been updated, and will mostly make an appearance on the website now they are approved – as part of a full policy review that is now complete.
  • An accreditation session held at Mahurangi College was successful, with all attendees achieving accreditation.  It has also provided a model for supporting members to confirm that they are current and competent through the ‘green bar’ on the Find a JP page.
  • Surface Pro computers not being used on Service Desks are to be returned and their software updated, so they can be used to help with accreditation workshops – watch for details of the return process.
  • Auckland is lagging in accreditation of members – 453 members are accredited, but at 34% of members, we are the lowest of the regions.  Council has agreed our target is 38% by December:  accreditation is just confirmation that you know your stuff!  Ask for help from your Support Group or another JP, if you would like support.
  • We are continuing to attract new members to our closed Facebook page – thanks to our Registrar, Janet, for keeping it updated, fresh, and informative.
  • Financial work has been strong this month – preparing for auditors and making application for another Lotteries Board grant to support Justices out there in their communities.
  • The Council has authorized further Service Desks, and others are planning to extend their hours – a reflection of the demand for these scheduled contact opportunities, mostly staffed by accredited Justices.
  • Details are being finalised for the AGM and Regional conference to be held on 22 September  at Alexandra Park Raceway- an important governance, communication, and networking event.  It also has a training component which will qualify for accreditation.
