Answer to Question # 36
When administering a Kiwisaver withdrawal application a JP is required to verify the identity of the applicant, often with either a current passport or a current driver licence. This is to meet the requirements of the Anti Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009. Which of these options would be acceptable for the client to bring to the JP?
- A copy of the front of their driver licence and a photo of the licence on their phone.
- A copy of both sides of their driver licence and a photo of both sides on their phone
- A copy of both sides of their driver licence and the actual current driver licence with a photo that looks like the holder
- A copy of their passport and the actual passport which expired last year
Answer C – The client must present their own current driver licence, and a photocopy of both sides of the licence.
To the image of the front of the driver licence apply either your AML stamp or hand write the statement requested by the Kiwisaver provider.
Certify the copy of the back of the driver licence using your standard certified copy stamp (AML stamp is ONLY used on an image with a photograph!)
